Templates

A template is a saved page body you can start new pages from. Templates belong to a Nexus and are available in every space in it.

Templates in docu.nexus are deliberately thin. There are no variables, no placeholders, no template editor. A template is a name, an optional icon and description, and a snapshot of some page content.

Where templates are managed

One door: the wrench icon in the rail down the right edge, then Templates in the Content group of the Admin panel. There is no standalone settings URL; /settings and everything under it redirect to /nexus.

The page is headed Templates with the subtitle “Manage reusable page templates for your nexus.” Below that, a card titled Nexus Templates (n) lists what exists. With none yet, it reads No nexus templates yet.

Any member of the Nexus can create, edit, and delete templates. There is no admin gate.

Create a template

Two buttons sit in the header.

New Template creates an empty one. Fill in Icon, Name (placeholder “e.g., Meeting Notes”), and Description, then click Create. The dialog is explicit about what you get: “This creates a blank template. To capture an existing page’s content, use ‘New from page’.”

New from page captures a real page. The New template from page dialog asks for a Source page: type at least 2 characters into Search pages… and pick a result. The Template name field auto-fills with the page title. Click Create. The template copies that page’s content and icon as they stand at that moment.

Create a page from a template

Any Create new page dialog shows a Start from dropdown once at least one template exists. The first option is Blank page; below it, every template by name. Pick one and click Create. The new page opens with the template’s content already in it.

The default template, if you have set one, is preselected when the dialog opens.

The default template

Each template row has a star button, tooltip Set as default. The default is flagged with a Default badge and shows in the Start from list with a (default) suffix. Only one template can be the default at a time; setting a new one clears the old.

Manage existing templates

Hover a row for its buttons:

ButtonEffect
Set as defaultMakes this the preselected template.
EditInline rename and re-describe. Save commits, Cancel discards.
DeleteAsks whether to delete the template, then removes it permanently.

Known limits

Be aware of these before you build a workflow around templates:

  • No variables. Template content is copied verbatim. Nothing is substituted.
  • Nexus-wide only. Space-scoped templates exist in the data model but are not reachable from the interface.
  • The usage counter does not move. Each row shows Used 0 times regardless of how often the template is used.
  • Deleting a template is permanent. Templates do not go to Trash.
  • Pages created from a template are ordinary pages. They keep no link back to the template and do not update when the template changes.
